You can bet the Northern Alliance was deliriously happy to see the US bomb the Taliban out of power. So were terrorized Afghan women banned from education. Many anti-Nazi Germans saw allied bombing and the Soviets at the gates of Berlin as a harbinger of liberation. Were they wrong? History's tragedy is that the choice is often between bad and worse, not good and bad. I live in Latvia and taught history in a local university. Most local students understood the choice in WWII was between the Nazis' Generalplan Ost and the return of Stalinism. The latter meant that a decadent Soviet regime could die a mostly peaceful death 46 years later. The former meant extermination after a German victory.
Same point for Mexico: were the Hispanic and Indian inhabitants and their descendants better off living under a highly imperfect American constitutional regime or Porfirio Diaz? Who's more free, Israeli Arabs or Yemeni, Iraqi, Syrian, Algerian and Egyptian Arabs? Which Inuits are better off, Russians in Siberia or Americans and Canadians?
All states are the creations of conquest. You should ask yourself why, after nearly 2000 years of anti-Jewish gentile persecution, ghettoes, pogroms and genocide, you single out and question the right of a Jewish state's existence, but no other. Also ask why you leave unmentioned the Koranic injunction to never relinquish Muslim land once it's conquered, as the Arabs conquered Roman Palestina in 638-642, more than 1800 years after continuous Jewish settlement.
But, in keeping with longstanding Jewish tradition, the best reply to Omar is a joke:
"Sharon sits down with Arafat at the beginning of negotiations regarding the resolution of the conflict. Sharon requests that he be allowed to begin with a story. Arafat replies, "Of course."
Sharon begins his story: "Years before the Israelites came to the Promised Land and settled here, Moses led them for 40 years through the desert. The Israelites began complaining that they were thirsty and, lo and behold, a miracle occurred and a stream appeared before them. They drank their fill and then decided to take advantage of the stream to do some bathing - including Moses. When Moses came out of the water, he found that all his clothing was missing.
"Who took my clothes?" Moses asked those around him.
"It was the Palestinians," replied the Israelites - "
"Wait a minute," objected Arafat immediately, "there were no Palestinians during the time of Moses!"
"All right," replies Sharon, "Now that we've got that settled, let's begin our negotiations." (URL: https://able2know.org/topic/57916-1)
