While learning Spanish and studying the Spanish Civill War I visited nearby Algarrobo in April 1976. One of my roommates in Sevilla was from there. We met his mother, who was old enough to have lived through the Desbanda de Malaga in February 1937, the Republicans' retreat during which 7000+ civilians were killed by Franquista ships shelling them while they walked down the coastal highway towards Almeria. Torre del Mar was in the crosshairs of the ships' artillery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEI2-MnV2nE
