When you have no evidence-based reply, get personal.

Actually, I'm a certifiably happily married 69 year old retired professor of history, investments and entrepreneurship living summers on the beach in Jurmala, Latvia and autumns and winters in Porto while occasionally working as an angel investor with two partners in a boutique venture capital firm.

Since conversational Russian and Latvian are my 7th and 8th European languages, Since I've lived in 5 EU countries and attained fluent or near-fluent proficiency in all their languages (Italy, Spain, Portugal, France, Latvia; 6 if you call Catalunya a country), I'm more European than anybody you'll meet in the two EU countries I now live in, despite holding a US passport. So you could say that I've had a certifiably insanely nice life by my own design. I hope you're able to deploy empirically skeptical western enlightenment values and intellect to do the same.

My Portuguese dates from living in Lisbon in the Carnation Revolution spring and summer of 1974 when Portuguese fascism died. My Spanish dates from watching Franquismo die in a peaceful transition to democracy in 1976, during which I interviewed several anarchist veterans of the Spanish Civil War for my undergraduate thesis. (https://medium.com/lessons-from-history/history-is-fascinating-but-stay-out-of-the-way-part-one-15fc8f2af82).

I experienced the British class system delivering appliances on a John Lewis with a Scot and an Irishman all over south London and suburbs in October 1973. The poorest neighborhoods gave the best tips of course.

I play basketball 3-5x/week and tennis 2-3x/week with players 15-50 years younger than I. My nickname from my basketball buddies: sniper, due to the certifiably insane long distance 3 point hook shots they've seen me make.

Fact-free generalization is an easy and lazy violation of the western enlightenment aphorism that Voltaire gave us: "beware of the great simplifiers."
