What the Democrats don't get is that the neo-confederate authoritarians understand it's a winner take all fight to the political death. One side or the other is destined for political extinction, until, as Lincoln said in his house divided speech, the nation is all one thing or the other, or there's no unified state at all. Their side also knows they can't win real elections in a real democracy. They've clearly chosen power over rule of law constitutional order.

Overturning Roe, Chevron and the immunity decisions are the 21st century versions of the expansionist slave power's Dred Scott decision and the Kanas-Nebraska Act that abrogated the 1850 compromise.

The Democrats are nominally in power, but not exercising power. We're in a Kerensky-like limbo of dual power.
