We competed with other apt owners for the best, most reliable tenants--western diplomats who had guaranteed incomes from governments. Those tenants wanted landlords who weren't predators and would treat them as valued clients over the life of a 2-4 year lease and fix problems as fast as possible. My first tenant was a lawyer who was the cultural attache at the German embassy. The next a Luxembourgeois fund manager and broker. I had a total of four tenants and got along well with all of them. Who I was, a multilingual entrepreneur working with and investing in my brother's private equity real estate fund, attracted the best tenants.

So, do you still answer "yes" to the Jared Brock definition of ALL landlords as thieves and monopolists?
