Violence leads to violence only when the victims can defend themselves, as in the Warsaw ghetto and Sobibor in 1943, Indochina and Algeria vs France from 1946-62, Korea from 1950-53.

Gandhi acknowledged that his satyagraha nonviolence strategy would never have worked against Nazi Germany because only a colonial power like Britain was constrained by its own legal system. Nazi Germany, like Stalin's and today's Russia, face no such constraints.
