This simple-minded transactional view of agency is nonsense. The lender and the recipient of aid need each other. Agency goes two ways. Here's how:

FDR and Wilson would have been very surprised to learn that Churchill's Britain and Clemenceau's France had no agency as a result of their financial vassalage. At Versailles Clemenceau pretty much ignored Wilson's 14 Points. DeGaulle was even more dependent on Britain and the USA. The list of profanities uttered by American and British generals and diplomats about Monsieur DeGrandeur de la France could circle the globe.

The "cathedral" in the ad is obviously an errant machine translation.

"the votes are about to dry up": Only if appeasing Russian useful idiot genocide apologists get their way.

"Aflluent": Either Matt Taibbi or Scott Dunn are clearly not affluent enough to spell correctly. On February 16, 2022 Matt Taibbi said all the open source intelligence about the imminent war was nonsense. He's as little accountable for his BS as Mr. Dunn is, though far better paid.

With the next $30 billion Biden's proposed for Ukraine, the total comes to $75 billion in two budget years. That's less than 4.7% of the total Pentagon budget. But perceptive readers may have been tracking Mr. Dunn's difficulties with simple math.

"Americans don't care about the war": In late 1940 85% of Americans polled were against entering the war against Germany and Italy. The same % was in favor of giving all possible aid to Britain and, the following year after June 22, to the USSR to defeat fascism.
