The culture clash between my Latvian stepdaughter and her French husband and their Portuguese neighbors was interesting. Spontaneous generosity with unplanned food sharing and house visits combined with absolute incapacity to respond to stepdaughter's invitations to neighbors to come over for dinner next weekend.

Just like my basketball mate.

It's a culture of mutual forgiveness not accountability. How a German lives and works in Portugal.

One of my Dutch basketball mates has a good formula. He's a dentist with his private practice in Eindhoven that pays for living in Porto about halftime. He goes back and forth every ten days.
