The bedwetting US-German-French Axis of Prudence fears a Russian collapse from Ukrainian victory as Bush 1.0 did in 1990 when he warned Ukraine not to declare independence as the Baltic States did. The Baltics and the former Warsaw Pact states know better, that incomplete empire demolition is far more dangerous than collapse.
