South Africa: the number of murders in three months - higher than war zones
Police report there were nearly 7,000 murders in July, August and September - an average of more than 75 each day.
Kidnapping cases doubled to 4000 cases. Also, the country notorious for sexual assaults and cases of rape of women and children, there was an increase of 11 percent and 10,000 cases were registered.
Ridden by inequality exacerbated by the world's highest unemployment rate, poverty, violent crime, government mismanagement and corruption, South Africa now has the second highest murder rate in the world. (after El Salvador)
South Africa is on track to record 30,000 murders in 2023, a figure last seen in apartheid South Africa of the 80s.
