Jews are a nation as well as a religion. Jewish sovereignty in Israel, which dates back 3000+ years, is non-negotiable. Boundaries for a two state solution are negotiable, but not sovereignty.

The West Bank and Gaza were under Arab rule from 1948-67 and the so-called Palestinians, whose existence as a nationality separate from other Arabs Hamas itself denies, didn't get a state.
