Read Lenin's Tomb by David Remnick for the answer to that question. The Soviet peoples overthrew the USSR when they couldn't stand living a lie anymore.
Does putting the fire out include:
1. Cancelling all property rights? Or who decides which if not all? What happens to the pensions of the public employees whose retirement savings are in CALPERS? The pensions of all the teachers and professors whose savings are in TIAA-CREF pension funds? What would happen to NY co-op and condo ownership rights?
2. Cancelling the entire legal system? Or who decides which laws get repealed and which not, if not all?
3. Expropriating all the startup shares I own?
4. Wiping out the money people have in savings and brokerage accounts? Wiping out the money people have in i-bonds with the US treasury? Gilts? Italian BOTS? German Bundts?
5. Taking away people's cars? I wouldn't mind since my only car is a two wheeled mountain bike. I love the idea of cycling from Jurmala to Riga on a car free road. Cycling along the Douro in Porto would also be much nicer.
6. A state with limitless power, and with who in power, that would hire and fire and decide where all the laid off workers from the closed down companies would work? Or would there still be a private labor market?
7. Who decides what's a necessity to be produced and what's not? You? You and your Stalinist cronies who seize state power?
Are gelato and mascarpone sauce in Italy necessities? Is prosciutto di Parma? Is coppa in Corsica a necessity? The Corsicans think so.
Is jamon de Jabugo in Spain a necessity or a carbon-fueled luxury? Who decides?
Is skiing a necessity or a luxury to be shut down? What about sailing? windsurfing? kitesurfing? golf? tennis? paragliding? base jumping?
What about pro sports competitions? Shut them down?
Wanna start a revolution? Take away my tennis and basketball.
As you can see, policy implementation is not simple.
