My former entrepreneurship student in the Free University in Berlin, Anna Bondarenko, organized thousands of volunteers in the VKS, the Ukrainian Volunteer Service, which Anne Applebaum wrote about in The Atlantic. How is Anna not free?

How is my IT entrepreneur friend Yuri, who last March and April coordinated the territorial defense of a network of 11 villages 9 km west of Kyiv, not free?

Civil society organizations and NGOs are completely free to organize in Ukraine, which is why the Russians torture and/or their leaders. They get totally frustrated when those they torture don't give them the information that fits their inaccurate script, that no non-state civil society organization in "Nazi" Ukraine can exist. Since no such thing in neo-Stalinist Russia exists, they have no conception of such organizations and always think they're tools of the CIA, MI6 or Ukrainian intelligence.
