Maybe a Freudian slip referring to the faux-Jewish Soviet republic of Birobidzhan. This would change Yiddish from German with a sense of humor to Yiddish as Japanese with a sense of humor. But the Japanese would never get the joke without going to Odesa or Hollywood.
