"It doesn’t topple governments"--You need to learn some very basic history of the US toppling democratic governments:

Support for Batista's Cuba, 1948-59

Mexico, 1916

Iran, 1953

Guatemala, 1954

Brazil, 1964

Dominican Republic, 1965

Greece, 1967

Bolivia, 1967, 1980

Paraguay, 1954

Uruguay, 1971

Chile, 1973

1980s Contra war against the Sandinista government that overthrew "our son of a bitch" Somoza in 1979.

Colombia 1929, supported army intervention against farm workers striking against United Fruit.

Occupations of Haiti and Nicaragua, 1915-33

Other coups/invasions, suppression of national liberation movements either sponsored by the US or whose resulting military governments were supported by the US:

South Korea, 1961 (Park Chung Hee, former officer in Japan's occupation army who told Japan's PM Nobosuke Kishi, the Manchuria slave labor impresario occupation governor and grandpa of Shinzo Abe, that he liked Japanese "efficiency")

Congo, 1961 (assassination of Patrice Lumumba, Mobutu's coup)

Vietnam, 1945-46: using surrendered Japanese occupation troops to stop Viet Minh takeover while the French colonizers organized their return.

Franco's Spain, 1945-1975

Vietnam, 1963

Argentina, 1976

Grenada, 1983

Panama, 1988

Indonesian occupation of East Timor, 1975-99.

Support for death squad govts in Central America: El Salvador and Guatemala, 1980s. In LA as a bilingual volunteer at El Rescate I interviewed and compiled the political asylum applications of many refugees who saw death squads murder their parents, husbands and friends: https://medium.com/lessons-from-history/post-cards-from-the-border-refugee-crisis-e152c3a7e96c

The US is the least bad hegemon of a nasty trifecta of dying empires. In a room full of blind men, the one-eyed guy is a genius. The US and its $ reserve currency are that ingenious last man left standing.

Once every other generation a genuine caricature of genocidal evil like Hitler, Bushido Japan or Putin comes along to make Uncle Sam look good by comparison. It's again bad vs worse time, which is why I support the American empire's (inadequate) aid to Ukraine. None of the above is not on the menu now.
