Never get personal or insult. When they do, just use ironic contempt with a "thank you for that evidence-based reply".

Jokes and cartoons expose who they really are. Totalitarians, dictators, theocrats crumble before a well aimed joke or satire. Remember Chaplin's The Great Dictator? Charlie Hebdo terrified jihadis so much they murdered its cartoonists and writers. All those claiming a monopoly of absolute higher truth blow cult bubbles that burst upon first contact with the funny bone.
