I would not define Spanish speaking immigrants to Catalunya weaponized incompetence in Catalan as "defiance" since they had the Franquista state on their side. "Defiance" is an anti-authoritarian term that didn't apply to this kind of linguistic dominance behavior reenforced by state power.
