I was too young and naive to be scared. At the Fallas in Valencia in March 1976 I was walking late at night with Catalan friends who had a still banned Catalan flag. Fascist thugs working with the Franquista Civil Guard on the rooftops were attacking Catalans. At about 1 am after downing a bottle of wine with my friends, a fascist in a leather jacket came up to me and said, "que haces tu por aqui?" and whacked me in the face before I could reply. I woke up and ran the other way. History is fascinating, but stay out of the way.
