How Hamas’ attack on Israel is a Russian-Iranian regime preservation operation:
If you can feel this new war shifting your attention away from Ukraine, you know it benefits Russia. That I hesitate to publish two nearly finished articles about Russia tells you how Russian hybrid warfare is geopolitical chaos by design and how Hamas fits into it.
The difference this time compared to the Gaza wars of 2021 and 2014 is the scale, scope and level of coordination of the attack, which mark it as a Russian-Iranian operation planned months ago with Hamas operatives’ visits to Moscow. For Russia and Iran it's a regime preservation operation, against defeat in Ukraine for Russia, against the Saudi-Israel peace deal for Iran. It's combined with the typical autocrats' strategy: always double down and push harder when sensing democracies' division and weakness—mass protests in Israel and MAGA cult fascist challenge to constitutional order in the US.
The Hamas isn’t acting alone thesis becomes clearer here, from the former British commander in Afghanistan, Richard Kemp, who said "that Iran and Russia were behind the attack which was,"too complex for Gaza terrorists to pull off on their own."

Hezbollah’s shelling in the north is so far just symbolic obeisance to its Iranian masters’ and Hamas’ call for total war. Its leaders, as well as the P.A. in Ramallah, will think more than twice before going down the road to hell paved by Hamas.
Egypt, the Saudis, Jordan, and the Emirates are only too happy to see Israel pound Hamas. Any talk blaming the war on Israeli occupation, which in Gaza ended in 2005, is pure crocodile tears.
Iran’s mullahs and revolutionary guard care nothing for Hamas or the Palestinians. For them, the Palestinians provide outside enemy fabrication in the service of regime preservation, just like “Nazis” in a Ukraine with a Jewish president does for Putin.
How this war will be a political earthquake for Israel:
The intelligence failures of the 1973 Yom Kippur War shifted Israeli politics dramatically to the right. This war will do the reverse, stripping away the Israeli right’s claims to be better at security. Netanyahu and Ben Gvir are now irrevocably branded at being better at security only for West Bank settlers.
