Fossil-fueled authoritarian kleptocracy is the greatest threat to the survival of our species. Its epicenter is the Russian empire that invaded Ukraine. Our survival as a species requires that it be completely defeated and de-imperialized. True peace, as opposed to temporary armistice like Korea, Georgia and Transnistria, requires a political settlement that accomplishes this.

Whether that requires its breakup of its stateless constituent nations into multiple states in a continuation of the 1991's parade of sovereignties, is an open question continually debated by its exiled opposition (Kasparov, Khodorkovsky, Meduza, Memorial) and not for outsiders to decide.

Without understanding Russia's half millenium long history of genocidal empire-building and its imperial grievance-driven national identity, which I've studied since 1972, you remain ignorant of the true nature of the threat. So academic excellence has its uses as a species preservation tool.
