Canada was just as exclusionary to white Latvian refugees in the 1950s to 1970s. My Canadian-Latvian friend has lots of stories of being told not to speak Latvian to his parents and brother on the bus in Toronto. So provincial xenophobia, not race, was the motive for exclusion. The USA, with its history of immigration expanding the category of whiteness, was more racist but less xenophobic.
Lengthen your attention span and read the book. Evidence based conclusions learning real, as opposed to faith-based mythologized history, are not fast food. Careful distinctions and nuance aren't just "verbiage" but training your mind in critical thinking. Thinking is hard work, which is why most people won't do it.
