Applying the same level of distaste to the empire that globally enforced the abolition of slavery and the Nazis who enslaved Europe is morally abhorrent. The British empire was odious in its hubris and its plunder, but left an institutional legacy its inheritors benefited from. But the legacy continental empires were far worse and left nothing.
