A dose of evidence-based history from my US history course, which would now be criminalized in 21 states banning CRT (https://medium.com/lessons-from-history/real-racial-historys-patterns-of-power-d31e798bb28d):

1. In the south the American Revolution was a reactionary slaveholders' rebellion. Patrick Henry said about the British when they offered emancipation to slaves who joined their cause: "They're gonna take away your n*****s.

2. The American Revolution was a catastrophe for native Americans.

3. The US Constitution plagiarized the Iroquois Five Nations Great Law of Peace. How do we know? Ben Franklin said so.

4. The southern veto in American politics predates the revolution. The southern states wouldn't join unless the northern rebels agreed not to touch slavery. That's why we got the anti-democratic small and rural tilted electoral college and senate.

5. The US would still be a plutocrats' plantation if not for a single family: the Roosevelts (Teddy and Franklin/Eleanor). We owe virtually ALL the institutions that put a brake on American turbo-capitalism to them.

6. The history of American finance is inseparable from slavery. The first securitizations in America were slave bonds. When they crashed in 1837, along with railroad bonds, a banking crisis with no modern deposit insurance ensued.

Most Ukrainians aren't fighting to join American turbo-capitalism, just as the Estonians, Latvians and Lithuanians weren't fighting for that in 1989-91. They look to social-democratic Nordic countries or social-market economies like Germany as models.
